Yahoo Doesn’t Like Web Publishers

One of the great things about ging to Pubcon is going to great parties, meeting with lots of people, sharing ideas and doing some networking. Ask.com stepped up the plate and sponsored drinks Monday night. Google was next holding a dinner and mixer tonight. Yahoo however has no love for the webmaster holding an exclusive invite only party for only 150 or so people.
So some of you are asking hey Gray aren’t you just pissed you didn’t get invited? Damn straight! However I wasn’t the only person annoyed, in fact there was a protest party held in the Ghost Bar of the Palms Hotel. C’mon Yahoo stop playing the elitist game of social networking, and open it up to everyone.

It’s not just the publishers. They don’t want to party with advertisers either. At SES in San Jose, it was invite only as well. Not a great way to launch a new ad platform. (IMO)

Count yourself lucky. In SES London last year no SE ran any parties.

Remembering the MSN party in New York, 2005 - I musta drank $500 of Bill Gates’s booze. I consider it payback for all those overpriced operating systems I bought
Seriously though, thanks for covering Pubcon in such detail, it’s a huge help to people who can’t be there in person.

Hmm… anti-social networking strategy…

I am not even there and I can feel Yahoo!’s lame elitist attitude.
Heck, I bet they would even go as far as banning you from their search Michael if you keep it up. Sorry for the expression, but, what a bunch of girls!!

Hi there,
Please keep in mind that the party was hosted by the Yahoo! Publisher Network, a product that is currently in beta. Since we rarely get to spend time in person with our publishers, we decided to host a small party to gather our publisher contacts and other close friends for a more intimate event. Our intention was not to be elitist — we really do value the entire WMW community — and we apologize if that is how it appeared.

Sarah, it was more close friends than publishers. Love to know how the business model of the brunette chick in the red dress fits into YPN. One publisher who would have been in the top 10% in $$$ of the publishers who were there was left off the list.
FWIW, Hef has a nice party pad and the band was great, but the bar couldnt handle the action.
It was funny to hear that MSN got even by leaving Tim Mayer off their list.
