Spinn.com A New Search Social Website

Danny Sullivan’s new social website Sphinn.com launched today.

I was one of the beta tester so I had a chance to take a look at the site and kick the virtual tires. The site focuses on the search engine optimization and search marketing subjects. For those of you who have found Digg and other sites to hostile towards SEO subjects Spinn is the spot for you.

Like many social sites stories are submitted and voted on by users. The stories with the most votes, or Sphinn’s as they are called get promoted to the front page. In contrast to most social sites Spinn actually encourages you to submit your own stories, really check out the guidelines if you don’t believe me. Now of course they want only the good stuff and not the crap. Another cool thing is you can start an editorial submission, for example Gord started a discussion about Jakob Nielsen and personalized search. So Sphinn is a hybrid social voting and forum site. If I understand correctly spinn is also going to replace the comments on Search Engine Land too (no more typekey YAY!).

I’m pretty sure Sphinn is built on the pligg engine. Since it’s very early in release it does have a few bugs (see known bugs). From beta testing I also know there were quite a few suggestions for features that will be coming down the road. If you’ve got some suggestions drop them in the feature wish list thread but check out the beta testers comments thread before you do.

If you’re looking to be my friend here’s my profile and you just stalk me. If you friend me and I don’t friend you back then you are classified as a stalker. If I stalk you back we’re friends. Also you should totally stalk/friend Vanessa Fox (formerly of Google) because it’s well just embarrassing when she resorts to friend begging, here’s her profile (I’m so going to get in trouble for that).

So there you have it, it’s new and a little rough around the edges right now, but I fully expect it be an important part of the search community within the next few months, so be sure to check it out sphinn.com

Not sure if you’re doing this on purpose or not (maybe a sly SEO optimization for a misspelling or something) but you’ve got Spinn.com in the title and a place or two in the content as well. I mean I figured it out pretty quickly and I’m not by any means the typo or grammar police, but it did confuse me for a minute so I figured I’d mention it.

You should have totally played it off on the SEO’ing for misspellings. I’d have believed you.

(You’re now coming up #5 for Spinn.com hehe)

I am wondering if the buzz surrounding Sphinn is outpacing everyone’s interest in this social website? Lots of back and forth banter between Andy Beard and others is certainly catching everyone’s attention.

Yep, I am sure they planned it that way! ;-)
