Hey Spock Don’t Penalize Me for Claiming a Profile
Posted on September 2nd, 2007by Michael Gray in Social Media
So yesterday I claimed my profile at Spock, I was sitting at #4 or #5. Today I’ve dropped to page 12. If you are running a social search engine who’s success is tied to ego searching and navel grazing, don’t penalize me for doing what you want …

That is pathetic if they bumped yours down to page 12 just for saying that you were ranked really high. I hope it is some other factor and not just what you said. Otherwise their system is not fair or free if they move people around based on how they feel.
Hope you get back up to 4/5

Vanessa had the same issue when she claimed hers…

At least you got to claim your blog. It can’t seem to locate me, even though I told it my LinkedIn email and password. Stupid service, if you ask me.

In my case, it took 3 days to reindex me so that I regained my old position. But I had to email them so they could manually combine my new profile with my old one. It is so not good that claiming can cause a drop like that.
If your ranking doesn’t return in a couple of days, you can email them. But of course, that’s not really a scalable solution for them in general.
Mitch, it couldn’t find my LinkedIn info either. I was talking to their CEO about it and he said it was probably because I was using the version of my LinkedIn URL with my name rather than the one with all the numbers. So, you could try changing the URL you list for your profile. Or (and again, this shouldn’t really be the solution) you can email them.
They are definitely in an early beta stage.
