I fully expected things to change over at Netscape when Jason left, but man things are getting really harsh over there. I’ve talked with at least half a dozen or so people in the past week who have had accounts banned. Some have even had entire account histories wiped out, and have been banned form creating new accounts based on their IP’s. I had an account banned this weekend and I wasn’t even doing anything too heinous.

I’m not sure that’s they way to go about fixing things. First off I don’t think Netscape is big enough or popular enough they should be pissing off and excluding anyone accept the most egregious offenders, and those folks are going to find a way back in anyway. I know there are folks who firmly believe in draconian penalties straight off the bat, but a warning shot across the bow is usually enough to straighten up or scare off those folks.

Lastly I have to say the new ranking algorithm’s at work over there are bizarre. There doesn’t really seem to be much consistency in how/why things get promoted to the front page. It looks there is some really zealot like micro-management and human intervention going on, which actually ties in with the aggressive penalties being doled out. So has Netscape been giving you a hard time lately?

Netscape killed all but one of my accounts. Now they have a few hundred really good ranking pages in Google with nothing on them.

Time to start creating more accounts and more parasite domains since I can not link to my domains that I was using. I just wish I had kept a file of all of the tags I used as I was posting.

    Have fun…

    Michael -

I just had to come back to this post - Netscape is so ridiculous it’s not even funny anymore. Even when submitting a legit article that they don’t have anything remotely close to in the system - it just takes me to a white page and doesn’t submit the story at all. Netscape sucks - I am done with them.
