Sometimes you can get subtle clues about things by not only paying attention to what people say , but what they didn’t say. For example take this question from Meet The Crawlers at SES NYC

Audience Question: Do you only crawl links found on pages or does your algorithm use queries from the toolbar?
MSN: It may.
Google: If you’re trying to use the toolbar to get indexed, you should spend your time doing something else. Other ways to get into Google without inbound links: Site submit and Google Sitemap.

To be fair that’s really not a question he could answer, but he sidestepped that one like a pro, well done sir, well done indeed.
