Remember when you were in high school class, and Sister Miriam Michael was trying to teach you some bizarre, arcane math formula involving sine or cosine, and you were ABSOLUTELY SURE you were NEVER GOING TO USE IN REAL LIFE? Ok well it’s payback time for me.
Dear Sister Miriam I’m sorry I didn’t pay attention when you were trying to teach us about sine, cosine, degrees and radians. Turns out YOU DO USE IT IN REAL LIFE.
Have you ever gone to Yahoo or MapQuest and seen the tools that let you list all of the pizza places within a 5 mile radius? Well it turns out there’s some fancy trigonometry going on behind the scenes. Basically you need a database with zip codes, longitudes, latitudes. You’ll need to convert the degrees to radians, apply sine or cosine, connect the knee bone to the ankle bone, and bada-boom-badda-bing you’re done.
Ok if anyone really wants the source code let me know, and I’ll post it once it’s done.

But that image is of a statistics formula, not trig…
… sigh
