If you’re going to target an SEO’s blog you’re going to have to do better than “Great post, great advice, love your blog keep it coming”, especially if your name is [really obvious keywords here]. You might stand a better chance of success if you included something that at least made me think you might have read the post.

Heh, I get those all the time. I’m thinking about switching/upgrading blogging platforms in order to get around having to filter through my daily comment spams.

Another variant: the foreign language technique. Not as keyword rich as the English version, but links are links

I have been getting someone emailing me saying “I stopped by your blog today, I find it very inquisitive, you can visit my blog here.” yeah… you read my blog! LOL I just don’t get what they get out of that though.

Not positive but I think they are try to catch contact forms that publish to websites, like guestbooks, or they think they are catching blog comment forms.

You can’t always stop the by-hand posters that came upon your blog “while googling for something else.”
However, I use a wordpress plugin called bad behavior (found at http://www.ioerror.us/software/bad-behavior ) and so far I am pleased to report that it has stopped any automated posting bots from hitting my comment section.
Of course, I should probably be open to the possibility that my blog isn’t a good target
