If you ended up here through the magic of a search engine like Google looking for a review of Spiderman 2 the movie, quickly hit your back button and return from whence you came, don’t worry I’ll wait for you to leave before I continue my story ….
… are they gone yet? OK back to my story …
If you live in suburbia, chances are you’ve unexpectedly walked into a spiderweb early one morning on the way to start your car, or even late one night while bringing out your garbage. You end up with this tangled mess of spider silk covering your face and hair. Usually it wipes away fairly easily. But for the past two weeks I have been running into these HUGE SPIDERWEBS while bringing out my recycling. Now back when I was a youngin’ I was a draftsman and CAD operator (drawing blueprints and plans). For a while I was even studying Mechanical Engineering and architecture in college. (Yes I never graduated with a degree but that’s a future post). You can’t be a student of Architecture and Engineering and not appreciate a spiderweb. It’s simple efficiency, and beautiful design is truly one of natures wonders, but I digress …
So I’ve walked into these HUGE SPIDERWEBS a few times in the past two weeks, and I’ve been on the lookout for the culprit who was creating them. I took notice of the fact it was actually a very clever spot for a web. The nearby security light would inadvertently draw in a regular stream of bugs who would certainly get caught up in a strategically placed web. Tonight I found the little guy, or maybe I should say the team. The first spider, on the right, was HUGE! The abdomen nearly the size of a dime. The whole thing was probably about the size of a quarter. Look at the picture, and use the two screws attaching the electrical conduit to the house for scale (click on the picture to enlarge). The second spider on the left is standard spider size. Now since the two spiders were working together and sharing a web, I think it’s safe to assume they are a mated pair. While I’m not certain, but if I remember my Discovery Channel properly the female is the larger of the two.
I usually don’t have a problem with spiders, I figure they eat lots of other undesirable bugs, but this is a pair! Chances are there are baby spiders comings soon, and I don’t want to be overrun with spiders on my patio next year. So I’m open for opinions. Do I kill them, do I relocate them, or do I just let them be? Please feel free to comment.
Lastly if you haven’t seen the Spiderman 2 Lego Movie check it out, it’s really pretty good.
p.s. If you can identify the spiders please let me know, I’ll give you credit and even a link.

Kill them! Or you will end up with more spiders than you wish. Can’t help on identifying. Spiders in our house and yard end up dead before we can conclude exactly what kind they are. All spiders, unless they are Peter Parker, are better off dead.
