The famous expressionist painting The Scream was stolen from the Oslo National Art Museum yesterday (news story). One of the more curious coincidences is this painting was also stolen and held for 1 million dollars ransom in 1994. Which raises the following two questions, why didn’t the museum take more precautions to protect it, and what is it about the painting that caused it to be stolen twice in 10 years?

Just have to clear this up. It was not the same picture that was stolen. Munch had painted several versions of the Scream and the one recently stolen was a different copy of the one stolen in ‘94. It was also in a different museum so the ‘94-museum has probably taken precautions but the recent one hasn’t (but hopefully has now)
