Now class repeat after me … your RSS Reader is not a bookmark ….
Ok, so I did actually know this, but I marked some feeds in my reader as important, knowing at some point I’d comeback and read them and bookmark them properly. Well today when I went back they weren’t there, my free RSS reader had deleted them. It seems it only kept things for 30 days, before replacing them with new feeds. Ok no biggie I was able to go back and find them, so everything is right with the universe. However it got me thinking I need to change my behavior to prevent that from happening again. So after nosing around I decided to upgrade to Firefox 1.0 and install a native RSS reader (Sage). It’s a pretty neat tool, and after using it I’ve turned full postings back on instead of snippets for my blog. The best part is it’s all in the browser so If you see something you like or want to come back to later, bing ‘ya just bookmark it right on the spot.
Ok now you also may want to try this extension to back up your firefox bookmarks and passwords, but if you do it to the same machine, not to a network file server what’s the point? If that’s you problem you may want to look into FURL and online bookmarking service, or export your bookmarks to something like myYahoo. If you go the myYahoo way also be sure to try out Intellisync, it’s an online tool that sync’s up outlook/outlook express with your myYahoo page.
