Gmail logoThis is a case of the a big technology company getting it right and giving people what they need. Goolge is changing Gmail so you can access it via POP3 (news). Making it possible for you to check your Gmail via webphone, or other portable device. You can even download it into Outlook or Outlook Express if you want to. Now in case you don’t get it, Google gives you way more storage (1GB) than Yahoo, or Hotmail, and instead of hobbling your access like hotmail does or charging you like Yahoo does, you get it gratis, on the house, in other words FREE!

So it’s pretty clear the folks at Google actually do get, the question is are there pockets deep enough and is there mousetrap that much better that they can stand up to the 800 LB Gorilla known as Microsoft?

This is excellent news and will definitely encourage me to use my G-Mail account more. G-Mail is great, easily my favourite webmail client; however, I’ve never liked the idea of keeping all my e-mails hostage on Google’s servers (I much prefer to have my own copies on my own computer).
