I’ll have to admit I wasn’t entirely up to speed on the whole page jacking issue, so I was glad I came across Google and the Mysterious Case of the 1969 Page jackers, on Friday afternoon.
However there’s some background data we need to go over first. I had a 2 word keyphrase I was ranking #3 for pre Allegra. After Allegra I disappeared and was nowhere to be found in the top 1000. I reworked the page changed the content, saw that it was indexed, but no change in the SERP’s. I left it alone.
Friday I read the page jacking article and after checking my site with an allinurl command, I saw a directory I was listed in. After checking the headers I saw the directory was using a 301 redirect. I decided one directory wasn’t going to amount to anything so I wrote to them and asked them to take my listing down. I checked Saturday night and my listing was removed.
I came home Sunday night and noticed a jump in traffic. I checked the SERP’s I have returned to the #2 spot.
Now of course this is only one website and not a completely controlled experiment, but still interesting enough that I think it’s worth sharing. So if any of you SE reps happen to see this, and want the URL of the directory, let me know.
NOTE THIS MORNING IT’S GONE AGAIN
