The Olympics start this Friday August 13 in Athens, Greece. In ancient Greece warring city-states like Sparta and Athens were able to temporarily set differences aside so the games could be conducted. With security costs for this years event estimated at 1.5 billion (news story) it seems that as a society maybe we aren’t as advanced as we like to think.

    Not true. watch the pbs special about how the games were. Many times the games were attacked, by all sorts of a-holes. winners also won lots of money too.
