Just for kicks I thought I’d post a picture from a site that’s suffering from the minus 30 penalty from the webmaster central (aka Google Sitemaps) control panel. The keywords have been sanitized but looking at the right panel is actually rather amusing. For the super-curious the one that is ranking at #29 is an accidental typo that I almost ranked for.

I have never seen a minus 30 but always see a minus 20 meaning I am almost good enough. I love things like this, they at least give one an idea of where they stand.
Interesting to see all right. If Only Google would give us some sort of notification or official indication of this with options to remedy it in Webmaster Central. I know Mr Cutts said it may never happen for fear of spammers getting ideas, but still… it would be nice.
A -30 penalty is better than what MSN does if they spot a site with too much SEO. They just ban it.
Google puts the site on a place where nobody comes (page 4) that isn’t any better in my book
Is there any way to recover from this?
Only recently did I have a site that ranked well for all types of terms and now it’s like I have to add 20-40 to see the same terms in Google’s serps.
Another off thing is that they’ll all come back for 2 or 3 days and then get penalized again.
My site experienced the google minus 30 penalty but I was able to recover from the penalty. I’ve started a blog to teach others the steps I took to recover from the penalty.
