With all this talk of splogs and spam blogs and even people selling spam blogging machines, I thought I’d give you a nice little tutorial. Any competent PHP programmer should be able to crank one out before lunch time and you should have it debugged by the time you go home.

1. Sign up for a blogging service like Blogger or MSN spaces.
2. Turn on remote publishing.
3. Find some feeds you want to “remix”. They can be RSS feeds of other blogs or even RSS versions of news feeds, save the URI’s.
4. Build a PHP page to pull in the the feeds and break them into “title” and “body copy” and other info you deem important.
5. Optional, mash multiple feeds together, randomly choose to republish parts of feeds, or uniqify the text in other programmatic ways.
6. Publish the feed via remote email.
7. Ping the blog services.
8. Set up a cron job to repeat the process unattended.
9. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Now of course this just your framework for a basic splog builder 1.0, there are lots of ways to improve it. I’m sure I’m going to get some ‘hate links’ about how I just gave away the secret and now splogs are going to multiply because I just taught everyone how to do it. If that’s your belief then I have to say grow up and stop being so naive. This is not that hard to do or reverse engineer.
