Googlebase Preliminary Results
Posted on April 11th, 2006by Michael Gray in Case Study, Google, SEO
So it’s been about 2 weeks since my Googlebase test and it’s time to look at some preliminary results. One of my favorite public SEO tools is Jim’s cool SEO Tool. It give you all sorts of information but one of things I really like is looking at domain age. I’ve included a screen shot that was taken a few days ago, because there’s no need for everyone to hammer his servers needlessly (but if you you do use the tool and like it spread the link lovin’).
Now while the search term [graywolf] isn’t especially competitive (just over 500,000 results and 11,000 results allinanchor) there are some tough players. First off most of the people in he top 10 are old as dirt (in internet years of course). Lets run down the years
1996
1990
2004 - me
1998
1997
2000
1998
an unknown .tk domain
and google base
Now most of these folks have 4-8 years worth of link building I don’t have. It is true however that most of the people I know online are pretty generous with the link love, but still that’s some old time competition out there. If this were a commercial SERP I would definitely be reaching into my bag of tricks for this one.
Now what’s up with The Google base result? The content is well pretty lame, not much more than BS placeholder nonsense. As far as inbound links I pointed 2 links at it and then there’s the folks who have started scraping my RSS feed in whole (don’t think I haven’t noticed you stinkin’ spammers ya). So let’s be generous and say 25 or so inbounds to the Google Basepage. I wouldn’t consider my site especially powerful, nor would I consider any of the scraper sites powerful. I think that page is doing as well as it is mostly because it’s on a Google Subdomain. I’ve got 6 other tests running out there to try and confirm it but nothings back yet. Google really seems to take it’s time getting new content when we have one of them green pixie dust updates like we had this week.
So anybody else testing Google base, if so what are you seeing (or not seeing)? What preliminary conclusions are you thinking about?
PS: My bad for not mentioning shoemoney who I chatted with before doing this Google base test.
