So I have been getting about 2000 searches per month to my blog for a not even remotely search related posting. Last month I finally got annoyed by the whole thing, so I bought a new domain, moved the content there and set up a 301 redirect to it. Now Google has found the 301 and if you look at the page in the cache it shows the new domain, however this domain is still listed in the serps, ok google is confused but they have always had a problem with 301’s.

I’ve added some new content to the new domain, and here’s where it gets stupid, Google is attributing text that NEVER APPEARED ON THIS DOMAIN TO THIS DOMAIN. The cache shows the new domain but the domain listed is this blog where the content never appeared. Yahoo and MSN both have it right though. Sorry can’t share the example for a host of reasons, but if I know who you are, and I know you’re not going to go blabbing all over the place drop me a line and I’ll share it with you.

Lemme know. I’ll ask about it. I’d need a clearer explanation though. Or maybe I’m just low on sleep. :)

No offense but but after what happened to link condom when greg put it up on his site …

I’ll try to be a little clearer in my explanation though. I had a page on this blog getting lots of traffic but completely unrelated to search. I moved it to another domain and set up a 301 to the new page on the new domain. I built the new site out an added new pages to it. When you do a search for a few terms it lists this domain even though the content is on the new domain. Additionally the content was never on this domain. To make it even weirder if you look at the cache for the SERP listing it show the new domain even the SERP shows this domain.

I’ll keep my eyes peeled for other stuff like this.

Seems to be copasetic now, so did you change something or did it just take while sort itself out?

I’m seeing things taking a few days, but then often working fine after that. I definitely didn’t do anything special for you, because I don’t know your site. :)

In general I’m seeing things taking a few days, but then often working fine (that is, going through without a hitch) after that. I definitely didn’t do anything special for you, because I don’t know your site. :)
