MR SCOTTFor those of you who aren’t big fans of Star Trek, you may not know this weekend is Scotty’s Final Public Appearance. The actor James Doohan recently announced that he has Alzheimer’s disease. The tribute tonight will have William, Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and all of the other living members of the original Star Trek Cast. In addition there will be lots of other celebrities like Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldren, and even the boy who saved the universe on a weekly basis and a nefarious blogger Wil Weaton.

Yes I know Star Trek was goofy thing they all did on lark back in the 60’s, but it was something more to it’s fans. No I’m not talking about the freaks living in their mom’s basement, who’ve never been on date. I’m talking about the people who became interested in science, technology, and space travel because of it. You don’t think it’s a coincidence that your flip cell phone looks and awful lot like a communicator do you?

So Scotty thank you for touching my life and the life of countless others.

One to beam up …. and full ahead warp speed.
