Diet & exerciseAs an American on the later side of thirtysomthing, I’ll admit it I could probably stand to lose a few pounds. Not that I’m a fatty mind you, I’ve just got a little extra padding. In fact according to the US government obesity is now a disease (news story). So why is it Americans have such a problem with our weight?

One thing I can take solace in is the fact that I’m not alone. One of my favorite Celebrity chefs, Alton Brown is suffering from the same problem. Now he said he was going to post a picture of himself in speedo to show his success on his diet. Personally I think he chickened out, what do you think (see photo). However there are those who seem to be doing much better. Take fitness and exercise guru Denise Austin for example. She’s over 40 and has a figure that women half her age want.

So what is it about us, or maybe it’s the big fast food corporations? I don’t think so, while genetics do play a role, the single largest contributing factor is the person who is staring at you in the mirror every morning. You are where you are because of the choices you made. Sure it was easy to swing by and pick up a few cheeseburgers on the way to bringing the kids to swim practice., but you know what those burgers weren’t made by someone who cares about you, your health or well being, so do you think they are good for you? Does that mean you should never eat a Big Mac again? Nope. You just have to strike a balance between convenience and what’s good for you. So maybe it’s time to lay off the double cheeseburgers.

So gray, how jealous are you that Pixie and Cocles got to meet your favorite chef, or have you met him?
