Seems bonehead blogger Russell Beattie can’t hack it in the big leagues. After he banned me a few weeks ago (post), for some things I said about him (post), now he’s banned Threadwatch as well (post). What’s the crux of the whole thing, here’s an excerpt from Russells blog today:
… I write whatever I want here about anything I want and that will continue. I also moderate all comments based on no more than my whim and mood (better use your own blog if you really want to say something). And I also have a one-click method for banning anyone that I feel like by their IP address. No justification required! Pretty cool, hey? I think so! …
Pretty cool?!? Sounds to me like some has delusions of grandeur. Instead of encouraging open debate and having the balls to stand up for what you believe in like a man, he’s thinks it’s better to walk around like the Queen of Hearts chopping off people’s heads when they disagree. Oh and it’s great to know you make haphazard decisions on no more than a whim, and as you say “with no justification required”.
You can catch more of this over Jeremy Zawodny’s blog. Jeremy seems a little hung up on the fact Yahoo is dragged into this:
The fact that Russell works at Yahoo has absolutely nothing to do with this, but Rich felt it necessary to put it in the headline he used. In case you don’t know, Russell was pretty damned popular all on his own before he was involved with Yahoo.
However one is his readers nailed it:
I don’t see what Yahoo has to do with this either - but I think for the sake of people knowing who Nick was talking about - Russell Beattie means little to most people but the fact that he works for Yahoo puts it in a bit of context.
Since the guy doesn’t seem to get the “there’s no such thing as bad publicity” angle, and doesn’t like to debate, personally I think it would be really funny for people to go out and link to him in every blog they have, use with the no-follow tag, and then make sure you had technorati ping the blog so it would show up in his profile and really bug the crap out of him, but that’s the “wolf” part of me talking (you know cull the weak from the herd).
Here’s the wind up:
If you’re going to post opinions on your blog, have the strength of character to stand up in the face of adversity and defend them.
If you make a mistake stand up and say so.
The only people who can hurt you, are the ones that you surrender that power to.
