Seems you can’t swing a dead cat nowadays without hitting someone talking about blogging. The latest player to the game is Business Week. They had a cover story about it last week, and have launched a blog about business blogging. While there is the business week cover story curse to contend with, I think Business week is doing okay so far. They don’t seem to be taking themselves too seriously, aren’t cranking out some fake personae cheescake blog, and are fairly interesting to date.

Steve Rubel brings up some interesting blog stats:

31% are active within the last 30 days, 44% are active within the last 60 days and slightly more than half (51%) are active within the last 90 days. “Active” means a new post has been added.

And also has a link to a Microsoft Small Business link which gives the following as advice on how to monetize a blog:

Sell advertising. This is likely the most common means of leveraging a blog to generate income. If yours happens to become a well-known blog, or one that is well-received in a particular niche, it’s always possible to sell ad space on your own. For lesser-known blogs, services such as Google’s AdSense or BlogAds enable bloggers to establish ad programs.

Microsoft telling you go use another companies product, especially someone they compete with in another market, never thought I’d see that.

Google on the other hand is taking some heat for making things more difficult for blind bloggers by instituting a “captcha” system on blogger.

GoogleÂ’s visual captcha requirement means that blind bloggers can no longer sign up for accounts without sighted assistance.

In an email to the Blog Herald, Joanie writes that Â…the reason I am writing [to] you about this is because bloggers are not aware of this issue, and my writing about it in the blindness corner of the blogosphere is not enough to let people know that what seems like a great way to reduce spam is also a way to keep blind computer users from bloggingÂ…
