Thanks to Jenstar for doing whatever had to be done behind the scenes to get Google to release the Adsense heat map onto the Adsense optimization tips page. I’ll admit when I first saw it, I mentally was trying to combine it with the most comparable heat map of the eyetrack studies. I finally decided it was time to put my ‘learn photoshop in 24 hours’ skills to use, and combine the two, here’s what I ended up with.

While this is an extremely unscientific method I still think there is some value. The scale is almost certainly off a little between the two, but the eye seems to pass over the center section the most, so it’s very likely the ads do get scanned when placed there. If the ads are on target and the keywords the user thinks they are following the correct information scent then you should have a better CTR.

After having the Adsense ads running here for a almost week, I have one observation. The domain/URL is being given too much weight. Most of the ads here have been for wolf related products. The number of postings I’ve made here that are about wolves is relatively small, so I’ve had to start filtering out those domains.
