By now you’ve all heard of the book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus“. However I’m going to throw this one out there Web Designers are from Pluto. If you read here regularly you know I’m a big fan off CSS Zen Garden, and I post about it all the time. I think some of the designs there are really stellar and absolutely push the boundaries of what can be done with css.

However every once in a while they put out a design that has me completely convinced the designer is living on another planet, and may even have severed his tether to the planet earth. Take a look at this design called Manhattan Edition. The graphics exceed anything I could ever produce in my lifetime as far as style and quality. The design is distinctive, has a lot of class, and is very eye catching. Now that we’ve all got that warm and fuzzy inner artist vibe thing going, I’ll tell you this design is completely useless. Look at it in a 800×600 screen resolution … see anything … nope me either … how about 1024 … you can see the top of the buildings and not much else. To co-opt a famous Wendy’s commercial WHERE’S THE CONTENT? You want to know where it is it’s all below the fold. Now I’m a spoiled brat so I have a 17″ widescreen laptop, but the only thing I see is the first block paragraph, sorry plain and simple bad design. Web designers please step away from the oversized mac displays and remember most people most people don’t have monitors larger than 17″ and most of them don’t have resolutions over 1024 … mkay … thanks
