Barry’s talking about fraudulent registry orders and I have a related bit of info to share. I used to work at a company who was a very big player in the bridal registry space, none of the companies Barry mentions, but definitely on the radar screen of those companies.

Anyways there was incident where this is what we were able to piece together the most likely chain of events. A thief placed an order for inexpensive items from a couples registry. The perpetrator used the address from the online UPS tracking system to obtain a physical address. With the address and the date of the wedding they knew they were able to break into and burglarize a house knowing that no one was home for an extended period of time.

There were a few other details I’m not going to reveal about the incident, that helped us reach that conclusion. So let’s be careful with what you share online.

PS: There are reasons I’m not revealing some of the others details, so don’t ask and don’t be offended when I’m not sharing.

Or in the local paper. Online is just a new spin on an old scam. Seen it happen to someone I know — house was cleaned out while on their honeymoon.
