Earlier in the week I mentioned I was going to be on Jason’s podcast talking about Mahalo. I was joined by Brian of Scoreboard Media, Allen Stern of Center Networks, and Andy Beard.
First off kudos to Jason for having the nerve to have on guests who not only have differing opinions but in some cases critical opinions. It’s about an hour long but I think it was a really great show. If the technology works it should be embeded below, if not you can go download the video or audio version. Check it out and let me know what you think. Hey Jason I’d be curious if you get a spike in downloads/views.

So much one can say… Good job to you Graywolf and the others – made for an interesting listen.
Interesting chat in some ways, but also sometimes cringeworthy. EXTREMELY cringeworthy. I’m left feeling a bit dissatisfied unfortunately. But hey, it might be that the discourse could be more open now.
OMFG. “The Greatest SEO In The World”. What can anyone say? First and last JC-Cast I will ever cue up. Probably the last wolf-howl comment I will ever post. Sadly, I actually *watched* this one. I’ve been drinking ever since. My head hurts. The pain won’t go away. Somebody shoot me.
Cringe is a mild, mild word for the experience. Even Roger Waters couldn’t find words to express the experience. Where’s my drink…
I started to write a long post about this over at MarketingPilgrim at least 5 times and each time I have to stop myself out of principal. This guy doesn’t deserve the recognition.
Here’s the gist of it. Calacanis kept saying something along the lines of, he is trying to keep sites that are bad, sites that are malicious, affiliates, & from SEOs. What I can’t believe is no one objected and called him to the carpet and have him define what an SEO site is. He basically was saying “all” sites created or worked on by SEOs are spam. That is the biggest load of sh*t I have ever heard. Is the NYTimes banned from Mahalo? God knows they probably have one of the biggest SEO programs on the web. I could go on and on, but it’s not worth the time.
To be honest I think a lot of the kerfuffle generated by the SEO community towards JC feels kinda fake.
Personally I think the guy is a hoot and a brilliant marketeer.
Yes he doesn’t know that an aged domain is good seo and we do and yet he has more money than us. Gee Bob, how did that happen, you mean he didn’t need to know that itty bitty bit of seo to get his websites cooking with gas.
My own annoyance for what he does and says is drowned out by the purile mob mentality. It feels so easy to hate the guy just because he says a few stupid things, ok more than a few. But it’s not like the guy hasn’t made a success of things.
However, the more I watched the video the more I learned how far you can get with intelligence, passion and street smarts, but lack in other areas.
My kids toy monkey knows that Mahalo will fail, I can’t even spell/pronounce/chant the thing correctly.
I don’t care how much money is behind it, the idea is flawed on so many levels.
There is huge noise out there in the marketplace at the moment and for a prettified Yahoo directory to get onto the top of the steam pile of web poo is crazy.
I’m glad JC exists, it makes life just that little more interesting.
And thanks the SEO guys who had the cajones to lock horns with him on his turf.
