When I see things like this I have to admit I’m fascinated about the inner workings of the Google Borg

Anybody think they aren’t using user/toolbar data? Want to do a nice experiment repeat this search every 15 days and watch for changes …

IMO - The previous format was better and as the Google WM guide says- these links are generated organically based on what G thinks are useful for users -(that goes perfectly with what you say i.e.which pages are most popular)- so its only natural that they will change from time to time.

These links are being given only to high traffic sites, but I bet there must be somebody’s hand put into this.

Google maintain Site Links are automated. From Webmaster Central:
“Sitelinks are completely automated, and we show them only if we think they’ll be useful to the user. If your site’s structure doesn’t allow our algorithms to find good sitelinks, or we don’t think that the sitelinks are relevant to the user’s query, we won’t show them. However, we are always working to improve how we find and display sitelinks. “

I liked the previous format much better, I’m going to watch that search and couple of my own to monitor changes. I’m very sure Google will find a use for toolbar data but how far beyond webmasters does the toolbar penetrate?
