Searching for Argentina is Not Safe for Kids or Work

One of the problems that’s bound to creep up with universal search is that inappropriate images will start to make their way onto the first page. For example searching for [argentina] (NSFW) yields a cheerleading team from behind wearing thongs. While that might be appropriate for Argentina, it probably falls into category of inappropriate. Purely for research purposes (heh!) I checked the image search for [argentina ] (NSFW) as well and discovered two new thong shots (yes I have safe search on) .

To be clear I’ve got no problem with people wearing thongs, however I’m not sure I want my kids or anyone else’s coming across that at home or school. While I always though sexual harassment workplace guidelines were a bit prudish, if you had that up on your screen and a co-worker walked by, somebody could make a really big deal about it.

Here’s an interesting question, if a person gets fired for sexual harassment, and the cause was an image from Google universal search is google liable? I don’t have the answer but it’s an interesting question.

Yeah, you should see what comes up in youtube.

Keyra Agustina is a huge Argentinian girl who became a point of focus for drooling men last year.

I have a buddy who has a MFA site on her @ keyra-agustina.com, and he gets about 11,000 pageviews a month.

But back to your point greywolf, hmmm it is not the end-users fault for typing in a query and google returning uncensored results–can this be a legitimate fight in court? Great Point.

haha, Argentina has given my company woes for years. Swimwear + Argentina apparently mean lots nudity and misled traffic. Great find… its been forwarded to many co-workers. :)

as excited as I was about this (I’m about to spend a year in Argentina) it appears that it’s not true –

http://images.google.com/images?q=argentina&&safe=on

notice how I specifically changed safe to on via a GET parameter? for me that search excludes your thong photos.

http://images.google.com/images?q=argentina&&safe=off

still does the thong photos as you describe…

MG are you spying on my Google searches? I JUST searched for this term last night because I purchased a new domain and took notice of that picture.

This only confirms that my idea of living in Argentina for 3 months a year is a good one.

I’m not sure if this photo needs to be protected with parental filters. I mean, it depends maybe of the country or region you’re living on…

I’m from Argentina (as I said) and it’s really all about football, wonderful girls and thongs. This is not strange for me at all (actually looks really “light”). You can see it in every TV Show or Magazine…

Maybe google can apply a better filter in more protected countries. At this point I agree with you.

I’m Argentinian, and I endorse those results. I couldn’t be prouder. After all that’s what we are all about! Good meat, good wine, and gorgeous women… oh yeah, and soccer ;)
