Google: The Virtual Dictator of the Digital Economy
Google’s dominant share of the search landscape puts it in a unique position. For many consumers, Google is the internet, or at the very least Google is the start page of the internet and doorway to the rest of the virtual world. For most web publishers and site owners, Google is responsible for the lion’s share of their traffic. In some cases Google can account for 60-90% of a website’s overall site visitors. For an ecommerce website getting traffic from Google can be the difference between making a healthy profit or going out of business.

Michael,
More and more webmasters are coming to similar conclusions. At some point, everything will have to come to a head; I can only hope that the end result is a vibrant web community and not one large corporation that stifles innovation as a means of protectionism.

Business Week covered this same topic in an article with the same name… http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/07_15/b4029001.htm

“More and more webmasters are coming to similar conclusions. ”
I’ve listened to disgruntled webmasters singing this tune since 2005. If Google is helping you make a truckload of $$$, you love Google. If Google isn’t sending you enough $$$, you’ll learn to hate Google. If you’re getting fat and rich off Google and still bashing Google its a marketing ploy that’s already getting oversaturdated.
I have 2 complaints with Google:
1. Not enough traffic
2. Google Adwords reviewers need to learn the difference between child porn and legal teen porn.
