If I’m looking for [private jet long island] chances are I don’t want to see craigslist crap nor do I want to see a local newsday (newspaper) article about hillary clinton defending her private jet use. I guess I should be glad I didn’t get a wikipedia listing …
C’mon Google you can do better …

Sphere It

I wonder what Googles fascination is with Wikipedia, and how they can be considered an authoritative source to rank highly for anything?
Just the other day my 10-year-old son was laughing hysterically at something he and his friend found on Wikipedia, that they both knew to be totally untrue.
When I explained that “anybody can write anything” and then showed them how it worked, their reply was “Well, that’s just stupid! How can you trust anything there?”.
Of course, their second instinct was to begin to cyber vandalize, but I was there to stop them… (for the moment).
So if a 10-year-old can figure it out, why can’t Google?

Craigslist tends to rank pretty well, which can be annoying sometimes because they are not very informative.

The AdWords results look good to me!

I must say I have been pretty annoyed at the same thing for the last months.
Why on earth is Wiki competing against on organic results for commercial terms?
I blogged about it an had a lot of aggravation via email about it.

I’m not taking hte value OFF Wiki, but the value they hold to the end user is relative to the query that is being done.
If I’m searching for Web Marketing I’m most likely looking for companies that prove that service rather then the meaning of Web Marketing.

Ah, but they want you over on the right hand side of the screen, Michael
The left is a mere distraction…

Agreed! I notcied after being above it for months, Wikipedia has jumped above me for some main terms. I can see a lot of people skip Wikipedia now though, my keyword traffic wasn’t really affected. Goes to prove Google is getting it wrong!

Hint hint, they only rank highly on phrases that aren’t competitive, right?
