I’m sure this has to do with the way things are published, like the times are different, but it’s still annoying to have to mark things read I’ve read already, only to see them appear later on

I would complain to Yahoo News; at first glance, it sounds like they’re not generating the feed correctly. Mihai from the Google Reader team stopped by on the last dupe report. He debugged it and found out that it was an issue with the site generating the feed: http://www.wolf-howl.com/google/google-reader-still-doing-the-dupe-thing/#comment-61365
So I’d assume it’s the same thing this time. Given that the dupes you show are all from one site (Yahoo News), I’d ask them them what’s up.

This isn’t unique to Google Reader. I also user Thunderbird for newsfeeds and often see whole tranches of items re-appear. I suspect it’s down to a site pinging the system when changes have been made to themes or something similar…

Agreed Mihai rocks!
As pointed out in the other thread, it’s a problem in lots of readers, and I’ve had dupeproblems in the past http://www.wolf-howl.com/tools/diogenes-of-rss/ so it’s not just google and probably is the publisher. However Google reader does the best job filtering so far and I’m hoping they can solve the problem first.

Dupes aren’t that uncommon.
Amazon has been annoying me by reminding me to ‘Earn 6% on Gift Cards’ everyday since December 15
