Google Not Afraid to Big & Ugly for Your Data
Posted on February 28th, 2007by Michael Gray in Google
In a non logged in account in IE Google is not afraid to get big and ugly to get you to download that toolbar and start sending them data. Notice it’s almost as big as the Google logo. Is getting your hands on my data really that important to you …

I dunno - yes, the layout is shockingly bad, but the size doesn’t appear to any bigger than, say, the ads on this blog?
Surely Google won’t attract disapproval for doing a normal website activity: running ads?

They have been doing this for a very long time. I’m sure it’s pretty effective.

Wow that is an eyesore, and no I don’t think it’s worth it (although their shareholders will disagree).

aaah yes but fully admit to being a shameless advertising whore, the big G on the other hand …

*laughs*

They must be the biggest provider of advertising on the web and you don’t think they are shameless advertising whores?
Me, I can’t explain the prevalence of MFAs in their system otherwise

I didn’t say I didn’t think they we’re, just that they won’t admit it, hiding behind the thin veil of “users best interests”

Maybe they just need to put a big red button on their site that says “GIMME YOUR DATA - NOW!”

You’re a couple of months late on this, Michael.

Hmm, first time I’ve seen it, was your UK?

All will be assimilated.

“Hmm, first time I’ve seen it, was your UK?”
Yep, Google UK. As most of my clients as in the UK, plus geotargeting on Google.com, it makes little sense to use anything else for myself.
What is slightly annoying is that you get the toolbar message even with the toolbar installed.
Reminds me of when we once had the house double-glazed by a company. A few months later, their salespeople started calling us to see if we’d like our house double glazed. We must have had a dozen calls from them. We’d never recommend the company to anyone else because of that.

I’m in the US and have been seeing it for months. Maybe 6 months but not sure the total length.

I have seen it before…
But anyways, no matter how ugly it may seem, I am sure they are using whatever converts best overall
We can just hope they track exits as well
