Matt Cutts and Heather Graham Conspiracy

October 29, 2006

Is Matt Cutts involved in a top secret project with Heather Graham? After reading a recent Threadwatch comment where Matt had this to say
if they want to assert that I have deep and close ties to, I dunno, Heather Graham, I would definitely throw my weight behind that one.
I thought hmm maybe Matt’s trying [...]

Is Googlebot Getting Lazy

October 24, 2006

I’ve been watching some of my pages to see when they get into Google and am getting pretty frustrated by the lack of progress so I did a little checking, and think Googlebot is getting pretty lazy …

Crawling Difficulties and Error Pages

October 21, 2006

I like to put my error pages in a subdirectory usually named “error”. So any 401, 403, 404 or other errors will end up in http://www.example.com/error/404/ . I also use this for other thing like database failures or things so I end up with http://www.example.com/error/database-error/ with a hopefully human friendly explanation of what happened. [...]

Is My Website Banned in Google?

October 19, 2006

One of the more difficult problems to diagnose is has your website been banned or is there something else wrong? I have the unfortunate task of trying to diagnose the problem for one of my sites and I thought it might be educational to let you in on the process.

Looking at Search Video News

October 3, 2006

I’ll admit I’m like the people Guy Kawasaki recently talked with I don’t spend a lot of time watching TV. I watch the occasional Mythbusters, American Chopper and animal planet nature documentary, and a few TV show I run some blogs for, so we’re talking about less than 5 hours a week. Since I spend [...]

Deep Crawling a Mini Site Part II

September 28, 2006

After correcting some “errors” in my mini-site architecture (see Deep Crawling a New Mini Site) I am happy to report posting links to all of the pages in the footer, got 90% of the site indexed in about a week.
So let’s clear up some of the confusion I created. For sites that are brand spankin’ [...]

Adwords Premium in 4 Hours

September 15, 2006

If anybody told me this I’d say BS but I created some new adwords adgroups this morning and I checked some of them to make sure they are OK and some keywords have already gone into premium positions. I’ve done it in about a week before but a few hours man that’s just crazy!

Google Technorati Search Weirdness

Adwords Pricing – Things That Make You Go Hmm…

September 12, 2006

So I’m bidding on a keyword where I’m the only person running an ad. It’s getting between 1,000 and 1,500 searches a day and getting between a 3-4% CTR. I’m a little baffled how they come up with the $0.12 a click figure since there’s no one under me.

Google www.Domian.com Query Oddities

September 12, 2006

As was discovered over at Digital Point google recently changed the way it handles www.domain.com. For most of the domains of the domains I’ve checked in the past few days everything is normal, however I came across two today that are pretty out of whack.

Suggestions for Improving Google Adsense Video

September 8, 2006

As I mentioned I was part of the pilot program for the MTV Google Adsense Video Beta test. I’m sure I’m not supposed to reveal the details, but I will say I pulled it down and the main reason was the low click/view rate and low payout.
Here’s a suggestion for improving the program instead of [...]

Looking at Keyword Stuffing SERPS

September 4, 2006

It’s curious that this SERP highlights the word in the comments and not in the title or anywhere else in the post.
As does this SERP and this SERP.
However adding quotes causes this serp to drop out my site, however my 43 people profile still lists (cache).
May have to do some more testing and disable comments [...]

Google Adsense for Video Beta Program

August 30, 2006

Perhaps you’ve heard of the Google Adsense for video ads. Initially I was told this blog was approved, which seemed a little odd to me as the content really didn’t match. After some back and forth earlier this week they decided choose another of my websites instead. In a way I’m glad because the content [...]

Suggestions for Google Music

August 16, 2006

Hey Google these things are so simple I can’t actually believe I have to suggest them but anyways here goes:

Google Adwords and Wide Open Plains

August 15, 2006

So I stumbled across a new keyword this friday and put up new ad on saturday morning. The ad did OK but nothing to get excited about over the weekend. Yesterday the ad totally exploded, which is pretty interesting since it’s not something people would typically be searching/shopping for at work. So this morning I [...]

Google Base Is it Self Indexing?

August 8, 2006

I’ve been monkeying with Google Base for a while now, but usually I’m going for stuff that’s off the beaten path so to speak. Sunday night about 10 pm EST I entered a new item and some of the tags I used were a lot closer to the surface. Monday morning I started putting up [...]
